The 2015 Carpet Trends You Should Know About For Every Project
In the 21st century, there are more ways than ever to get a job done, like suggesting the best carpet for a client, especially thanks to the internet. But sometimes the internet can be information overload and that’s when you know you can have too much of a good thing. Whether you’re designing a complete office fitout or a tidier boutique space, picking the right carpet is essential to the overall look and feel of the space.
To help, InsideOut.com.au recently compiled a list of some of 2015’s biggest trends in carpet colour, comfort, and texture for you to keep in mind. Without the distractions or noisiness of design boards or image forums, we’ve compiled some of our favourites here for you to consider starting with number one:
“Neutrals will always be safe, but a small dash of vivid carpet can have a big impact
High-traffic areas, such as hallways and stairs, require a strong, durable carpet in a forgiving shade, such as a level loop pile in a moderately dark or striped colourway.
Sisal and coir are ideal for busy spots, too. “Natural flooring is moving towards longer loops – big, chunky spun yarns, and deeper tones, such as charcoal and chocolate browns.”
Knowing what colours and textures work well is one thing, but knowing what’s currently in vogue is another. According to InsideOut, we’re seeing a trend ship toward much darker shades and autumnal, woody hues. This is ideal if you’re designing for clients that are expecting busy walkways or heavy activity as darker colours are easier to maintain.
They recommend saving plush pile to luxury spaces and bedrooms, but what should you be considering if you’re designing a smaller office space for your client?
“Two big buzzwords are ‘vintage’ and ‘nostalga’ – carpets that are tactile and comforting, sometimes with an aged patina.”
The retro feel is still a winner for modern design and definitely something to consider when picking and choosing the best designs for your client. Part of Durkan’s print collection pulls design elements from classic ideas that truly inject character and personality to whatever room they’re found in. Better yet, their newly released Definity range marries smart design with innovation to create an unmatched luxury performance. But, what if your client is a little demanding and wants more? You might tell yourself to think outside the box, and Melissa Jenkins has got you covered: “Art has moved from the walls, and you can now have a painting on the floor.”
Some designers, today, are creating some striking shapes to liven-up the rooms you’re decorating. Trends are constantly changing, and sometimes it may feel like a battle in itself trying to stay on top of them all. Thankfully, we’ve got you covered with some of this year’s most popular carpet trends to help make picking the right one for your client a breeze!
